  • The Nissan Leaf - a standout 100% electric vehicle

The Nissan Leaf is the top selling 100% electric vehicle in the world for good reason. Here's why I love the Leaf: 1. It is silent, smooth and extremely fast 2. It is insanely cheap to operate (i've run my 2015 68k miles) saving me $~7k+ in fuels costs vs my 22mpg suv. It's paid for itself and I run on sunshine (solar on my roof). 3. I live in a very snowy high altitude mountainous region - snow tires, traction control, a low center of gravity have proven this to be capable 4. heated seats/steering wheel are luxurious Downsides: 1. Range is limited - EV's don't operate like gas cars - its NOT fill and forget...it's like your cell phone...keep it topped off and range fades as a concern - plus there are literally 100's+ of fast chargers being built across the U.S. which will address longer trips
  • Battery degration is really limiting its usability

The 2011 Nissan Leaf is great in everyday operation, but with four bars of battery gone already, I can now barely commute the 40 miles to work and back. What I really don't like is the way Nissan is taking care of past customers - while they have a program to sell refurbished battery for $3000 or so in Japan, in the States not only is this program not available, they've increased the price of the new battery to more than $8K. So my Leaf is now practically useless for anything more than 40 miles without any economical solution to address the range problem. I would think twice to get another Leaf from now on.
  • Great mid range electric car

I went to just do a test drive and came back asking the sales guy Where I sign. The car moves very fast but the thing that surprised me more was the suspension feel. The SV & the SL models are the way to go, since they have the navigation system, heating everywhere (even side mirrors) and you can program where you going and give you all the info to get where you need to get with the actual charge you have in the car. The sound system is a plus and ghe interiors don’t look cheap like some other cars in this category. It has been a great learning experience with something totally new(2 years ago) for me, since you have to learn to not worry because you don’t have any gas in the car. No more gas cars for me again !!
